Directly from Bologna comes one of the leading pipemakers for the High Grade in Italy.
A simple Sunday in March, we are near Bologna and, from fans and resellers of pipe art, we contact an exponent of Italian pipemaking. His name is Davide Iafisco, a niche artisan like the pipes he made; extremely available and cordial hosts us in his home / workshop, and we spend a few hours talking about his history and how he creates his works. It is officially on the market in 2013, although producing pipes since 2010, its objective is clear, to create objects as the first goal to taste excellent tobacco, but in addition to creating an expression, a concept, from a piece of briar an increasingly personal and innovative idea.
Starting from the classic English styles that we all know, Davide is inspired by the American industrial style, the Danish organic design and the sturdiness of the Italian pipe; the idea of continuous study, the search for harmony, the balance of forms with an ever-present elegance and the desire for an ever more complete product. His work experiences with great visual masters as well as instrumental limitations, artists like Teddy Knudsen, Claudio Cavicchi, the Radice family, and recent names like Jeff Gracik, Chris Asteriou and others were important.
A pipe by Davide Iafisco is never just a pipe, it is a research, a study, an evaluation, all united and balanced for a harmonious and dynamic result … you will not only buy a pipe.
“In addition to being objects designed for tasting tobacco, they are actually tributes to a tradition and an imagination shared by those who, in history, have been able to get excited in looking beyond the mere function of things, appreciating their ability to interpret and give us back their signs of aging. ” Davide Iafisco
